Conshohocken Facility
Sharp Corporation's Conshohocken facility was originally established as a commercial printing operation in 1952. During these early years, the Company developed a relationship with pharmaceutical manufacturers as a supplier of various types of printed promotional advertising brochures and packaging components. This relationship led to the eventual incorporation of the company as a "repackager" in 1957 for the purpose of providing a service to the drug, device and cosmetic industries. The company was family-owned and operated and specialized in blister packaging of pharmaceutical professional samples. Sharp was also the pioneer of the hospital unit dose package. Numerous small additions were made to the original plant building as the business grew. A separate facility was also operated in an adjacent town for packaging penicillin products for a number of years. From 1952 through the mid 1970's, Sharp served a great majority of pharmaceutical companies.
In April, 1976, the Superior Group, Inc. (CAWSL) purchased the Sharp Corporation and financed further growth and expansion. A new component production plant with new presses was constructed in 1992. An adjoining property was also purchased and an additional warehousing and production facility became operational in 1985. Today, with nearly 175,000 square feet of manufacturing space, there are approximately 500 people employed in the two plant sites located in Conshohocken.
